Objectives:
The purpose of this course is to present all the facts that are related to the Garifuna people settling in Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Belize, which gave the rights to their lands and Territories in these countries. Terms and Definitions of Pre-Historic Belize settlement by Garinagu and their rights under UNDRIP and International Law.
Special emphasis will be on the Belize Maya Land Rights Case Ruling and how it impacts on Garifuna people Customary Land Rights in Belize and the countries where the Garifuna people currently reside.
Through this course, the Garifuna people and other people who enroll in it, will get to develop a clear and better understanding of why the Garifuna people have rights to the lands in the countries where they live.
Part I: the Law of Imperialism, Colonization, and Indigenous Peoples (which would cover the history and Colonial Era law of the Euro-imperial expansion into Africa, the Americas, and Oceania, the creation of the Law of Race, and the institutionalization of imperial / colonial rule through domestic laws regarding indigenous peoples (including slavery and the Diaspora) and the extension of colonial rule through successor colonial states)
Part II: The Evolution of Modern International Law and Human Rights Regarding Indigenous Peoples, Ethnic Minorities, and Race.
Part III: The Law of Liberation and Decolonization, Restorative Justice and Reparations of Indigenous Peoples, Ethnic Minorities, and Race.
Part IV: The Garifuna – Establishing Rights Under International and Domestic, and Garifuna, Law.
